Yusuf deploys 1,600 watchmen to strengthen security in secondary schools

Gov.  Abba  Yusuf of Kano State has  approved  the distribution of permanent and pensionable appointment letters to 1,600 newly recruited watchmen posted to Secondary Schools across the state.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, on Wednesday.

Yusuf  described the exercise as a major step toward restoring safety, discipline and stability in public schools.

He explained that a secure environment for students, teachers and school facilities remained a top priority of his administration, adding that learning cannot thrive where safety is compromised.

The Governor emphasised that the watchmen would play a front‑line role in safeguarding school premises, monitoring unauthorised activities and supporting the smooth running of academic programmes.

He commended the Ministry of Education and the management of the  Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Management Board (KSSSSMB) for their commitment to executing government directives.

Yusuf urged the newly appointed watchmen to discharge their duties with vigilance, discipline and integrity.
