Woman, 46, docked for allegedly stealing late sister’s property

The Police on Wednesday, charged a 46-year-old woman, Maria Ajimosun, before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, over alleged stealing.

The defendant whose address was not stated, was accused of stealing a vehicle and the sum of N5.5 million belonging to her late sister and her husband.

She is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, PC Olapeju Durodola, told the court that the defendant conspired with others now at large, to commit the offence sometime in March 2025.

Durodola alleged that after the death of her sister, one Esther Adesiyan, the defendant stole the deceased’s ATM card and withdrew the sum of N5.5 million from her GTB account which she converted to her own use.

She also alleged that the defendant stole a Lexus RX350 Jeep valued N16 million, GTB ATM card, and a First Bank ATM card, all from her late sister’s house, which property belong to one Mr Michael Adesiyan, husband of the deceased.

He said that the defendant was eventually arrested by the police.

The offence contravenes the provisions of Section 383, 390(9), and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State 2000.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olabisi Ogunkanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N25 million with two sureties in like sum.

Ogunkanmi held that one of the sureties must be a blood relative of the defendant.

She adjourned the case until March 23, for hearing.
