The Vice Chancellor, Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, Prof. Christian Anieke, has warned newly admitted students against illicit drug consumption, cultism and stealing.
Anieke gave the warning at the orientation programme it organised for new students admitted for the 2025/2026 academic session, held on Monday in Enugu
He stated that such immoral behaviors had no place in the university, adding that the school would not tolerate any student engaging in such acts.
Anieke stressed that the consumption of such substances was a taboo in the university, emphasising that the school did not want to deal with individuals who engage in such behavior
“That is why you cannot take any form of drug on campus as we insist that we don’t want anything to disturb your mental health.
“So if you took drugs in the past at secondary school, come to me for confession to help you,” he advised.
According to him, GOUNI does not tolerate any form of cultism. He stated that “once a university harbours cultism, it will fall apart, as it ruins the academic performance of students engaged in it.”
He, therefore, warned that the management would deal decisively any student found in recruiting others to join cult activities on campus.
The vice chancellor further advised them against taking and posting of their nude pictures in their phones or online, warning that someone could use it against them in future.
He equally advised the students not to steal, warning that consistent stealing in a particular hostel or room without identifying the criminal would force the university to install cameras in their hostels or rooms.
Speaking also, the Registrar of the university, Dr Peace Ike, who called on the students to report any issue affecting them to appropriate quarters, said a student should have 75 per cent lecture attendance to write the university exam.
She warned that the school had zero tolerance for examination misconduct, urging them to be serious with their studies.
