Performing the ceremony on Friday at the university auditorium, the Vice Chancellor, GOUNI, Prof. Christian Anieke, said the recipients were recognised for their selflessness, sacrifices and achievements.
According to him, they are individuals who had done extraordinary and honourable things towards making the society better.
He extolled Chime for his simplicity, humility and for achieving a lot that transformed Enugu State during his tenure without making noise about them.
Anieke explained that the recognition was necessary so that students and younger generation could use them as their role models in the society.
For the best graduating student, Anieke said, “Two years ago, she was crowned the Vice Chancellor for-one-year, and this year, she emerged as the best graduating student.
“Normally, when you are a Vice Chancellor for-one- day, others will struggle to take the position from you but Miss Azubuike said, ‘I am going to maintain the lead,” Anieke said.
Responding, Chime thanked the university for finding him and others worthy to be recognised.
“I left office 10 years ago. So I feel honoured being inducted into GOUNI Hall of Fame and I won’t take that honour for granted,” he said.
The former governor challenged students to study hard to also emerge vice chancellorship for-one- day.
On their part, Onyia and Engwa, thanked the vice chancellor for awarding them professorship and reiterated their commitment to do more for the school.
Engwa said, “I will transit the knowledge acquired to younger generation, explore more to make more impacts”.
The university would hold its 2024/2025 convocation on Saturday.
