Two persons, Adeoye Oyekunle, 43 and Sylvester Okolbhoe, 38, were on Friday arraigned before a Mapo Grade A Customary Court in Ibadan over alleged N4.6 million fraud.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of conspiracy, false pretence and stealing preferred against them.
The court’s President, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N200,000, with an evidence of two million naira in each of their accounts and two reliable sureties each.
Akintayo added that each of the sureties must provide evidence of three years tax payment to Oyo State government.
She, thereafter, adjourned the matter till July 2 for hearing.
The Prosecuting Counsel, Insp. Ayodele Ayeni, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Feb. 12 at about 12.22 p.m. at Bodija area of Ibadan.
Ayeni said that the duo fraudulently obtained the sum of N4.6 million from one Mr Samson Alo after agreeing to buy him a 15-horse power waste bailing machine, with 400kg capacity hydraulic pipe.
He said that Oyekunle and Okolbhole fraudulently converted the money to their own use before they were apprehended by the police.
According to him, the offences contravened the provisions of sections 516, 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
