The Police Command in Niger on Tuesday, said it has arrested two suspects in connection with stealing, and also recovered stolen items.
This is contained in a statement by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Wasiu Abiodun, in Minna.
He said that the arrest was made on Jan 5, at about 12.50 p.m., following information received within the Chanchaga Area of Minna, that a resident who was entrusted with a shop in the area, had stolen a lister engine.
According to the spokesperson, the police operatives attached to the Chanchaga division, arrested the suspect, adding that during interrogation, he confessed to the crime, and also admitted selling the items.
Meanwhile, he said that the lister engine was later recovered, while the suspect and the receiver were charged to court.
He said that oher items recovered from the suspect are valued over one million naira.
The spokesperson said that similarly, on Jan. 12, a report was also received that on the same date, at about 4 p.m., a motorcycle rider had stolen the phone of a passenger at Bosso estate junction.
He said that the rider had claimed to be a soldier, and had intimidated the passenger, a student.
According to the spokesperson, the rider had forcefully conveyed the student to an isolated area within the estate, where he robbed him of his infinix phone.
The PPRO said that the suspect who was also arrested by the police, has confessed to the crime, and has been charged to court.
