A 65-year-old man, Oluyemi Lawrence, on Friday appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for alleged N20 million land fraud.

Lawrence, who resides in Akala Expressway area of Ibadan, is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecutor, ASP Foluke Adedosu, told the court that  the defendant committed the offences in September 2023 at Bel-Air Estate, Akala Expressway, Ibadan.

Adedosu said that the defendant fraudulently obtained the N20 million from the complainant, Dr Ekanade Adetunji, on pretext that he would sell him some plots of land, but failed to do so.

He said that the defendant converted the money to his personal use.

Adedosu said the offences  contravened Section 390 and 419 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs A. T. Oyediji,  granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2million with two sureties in like sum.

Oyediji said sureties must have a limit of N2million each in their bank accounts.

She adjourned the case until Feb.12 for mention.
