Man, 37, arraigned over alleged N3m fraud

A 37-year-old man, Agbetan Kola, on Monday appeared before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun, for allegedly obtaining the sum of three million naira under false pretence.

Kola, whose address was not stated, is standing trial on a three-count charge bordering on fraud, stealing and obtaining money by false pretence.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP E.O. Adaraloye told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 7, at the Asore area of Ota.

He alleged that the defendant fraudulently obtained the said sum from a complainant, one Mr Raphael Sikiru, with a promise to construct solar inverters for his house.

He said that the defendant converted the money to his personal use and brought fake inverters instead of fulfilling the agreement between them.

The offences contravene the provisions of sections 390, 419 and 452 of the Criminal Code, Law of Ogun, 2006.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Fadairo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Fadairo ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Ogun state Government.

The court adjourned the case until Nov.26, for hearing.
