Sir Dan Chukwuka, a survivor of Ugwuonyeama, Enugu tanker fire explosion that occurred in Jan. 25, says it is only God that saved his life from the inferno.
Chukwuka stated this during his survival Thanksgiving Service on Sunday at the Christ Church (Anglican), Uwani, Enugu.
Recall that many people and families lost their lives and eight vehicles burnt in that fire accident after a tanker laden with fuel fell and exploded in the Ugwu- Onyeama axis of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.
Chukwuka who is the Public Relations Officer (PRO) Enugu Diocese, and Protocol Officer of Knight of Good Shepherd Anglican Diocese, Enugu, said he and nine others boarded a sienna from Enugu to Anambra and met the explosion at Ugwuonyeama.
According to him, he was the only one that survived the inferno while others got burnt, describing him being alive as the grace and mercy of God.
Chukwuka who had recovered from the burnt he sustained said, "On Jan. 25 at Ugwuonyeama, we saw hell, it was like a dream how the whole thing started. Everywhere was on fire. I did not know that I will make it.
"It was God that saved me and the way he saved my life till now I don't know. It is just by his grace and I want to thank him.
"The way people and families lost their lives that day was something that, everytime I remember, I will continue shedding tears.
"It was a miracle that I survived the fire accident because the whole fire was on me. It was a miracle.
"This thanksgiving service is to thank Him for saving my life," he said.
The Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Anglican Communion, Professor Samuel Ike, described Chukwuka's survival as a "miracle that was indescribable.
"How he found himself out of the inferno to a distance and safe place was only but a miracle.
"It was like a biblical miracle of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. So we are all joyful," Ike said.
Dr. Sam Ezeofor, the Anglican Bishop, Diocese of Aguata in Anambra State said what happened at Ugwuonyeama was a tragedy but thank God for opportunity He gave to Chukwuka to live again.
"In spite the tragedy and the magnitude God delivered him. It is a miracle and we are happy about that", he said.
The Zonal Director, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Dr. Ikechukwu Eze, said Chukwuka surviving the fire showed that hands of God was on it.
"I watched the incident on television and saw how devastating it was. God have shown that even in the thick of furnace that his grace abound," Eze stressed.
The event was attended by many Anglican priests, Chukwuka's family, friends from different part of Nigeria including the retired Bishop of Awgu Aniri Diocese, Doctor Emma Ugwu.
