Group stakes ₦10m for grabs in football tournament


Tiger Lager Beer has put up ₦10 million for grabs in its Tiger Street Football Tournament slated for NewBerris Lounge, Awka on Saturday.

Mrs Maria Shaddeko, Portfolio Manager, Tiger Premium Brand, made this known on Friday while adressing members  of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Awka chapter in Awka.


“The stakes of this tournament are high and tempting as  we have lined up consolation prizes, with ₦5 million reserved for the winning team, ₦3 million for second place, and ₦1 million each for third and fourth place football teams,” she said.


According to Shaddeko, in the semi-finals of the 5-a-Side tournament scheduled for Saturday, Sunday Sparks will face Peace Warriors, and Peace Dominion will take on Peace Ambassadors.


Shaddeko said that the maiden edition of the tournament was designed to ignite the fearless, uncaged energy of young, non-professional Nigerians and celebrate their raw unfiltered love for football.


She said that the tournament sponsored by the Premium Tiger Lager Beer focuses on the raw talents of the players to horn their skills and tell their stories based on post-match analyses with emphasis on their positional beyond the street football.


The Portfolio Manager said that the football tournament is open to non-professional players, including amateur footballers, students, hustlers, dreamers, Sunday-Sunday entertainers, and street corner footballers and hidden talents on the streets.


She noted that the tournament aims to highlight Tiger Beer’s contributions in providing a platform to hunt and expose talented players to limelight and next set of football stars.


According to her, the tournament offers more than just a stage for goals and glory of the competition, but provides friendly atmosphere, live entertainment and cultural tourism experiences and fun to the street.
