The Police in Lagos on Friday, dragged two men before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, over charges bordering on alleged defilement of a 13-year-old girl.
The defendants are: Samuel Aghono, a 69-year-old prophet who resides at Ijora Badia, in Lagos, and Olayemi Oyinloye, a 39-year-old hotelier, who also resides at Ijora Badia, Lagos.
They are standing trial on charges bordering on conspiracy, defilement and obstruction of justice.
They both, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP Adegoke Ademigbuji, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Aug.16, at a Hotel, in Amusu street, Ijora Badia.
He said that the victim’s grandmother alleged that she had received a prophesy from the first defendant, that her granddaughter (the victim) required spiritual cleaning to avery impending danger.
He alleged that the grandmother was instructed to bring her grand child to a hotel, to meet the prophet, in furtherance of the purported cleansing.
According to the prosecutor, after bringing her grand child to the prophet, he instructed the grandmother to live and thereafter, he gave the girl a substance to drink, which weakended her.
The prophet was alleged to have consequently, defiled the girl in her vulnerable state.
Meanwhile, the second defendant was alleged to have obstructed the police from arresting the first defendant, which action “gave him in” as an accomplice.
The offences contravene the provisions of sections 138, 252 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs M. F Onamusi granted the defendants bail in the sum of N300,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.
She adjoured the case until Dec. 11, for mention.
