The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) says the commission sealed Seat of Wisdom School, Enugu's library/bookshop due to their refusal to allow its officers to inspect its library.
Mr Okwudili-Macfoy Akachukwu, the NCC State Coordinator, Enugu told newsmen on Thursday in Enugu.
Akachukwu said that the commission had zero tolerance for establishment that operates without compliance and respect to rules of engagement.
He explained that the school had penchant for disregarding officers of the commission in the course of discharging their lawful duty while in their complex.
“All effort made by the NCC team on duty at the time in context to gained access proved abortive,so we need to wield our action over disrespect to constituted authority.
“We advise them to stay away untill further notice when due approval is sorted from the commission to avoid sanctions,.
“We signed a note of warming to them and others who may desire to join their footprint as a corrective measure, ” he said.
Akachukwu explained that the. essence of the inspection was in continuation of the Enugu state office Anti- piracy drive led by Mr Alubo Inalegwu, to rid the state of pirated books.
He said that NCC was not on the streets for jamboree as the exercise underscores the commission’s mandate to guarantee that Nigerian creators enjoy the full financial benefits of their intellectual labour.
Akachukwu disclosed that in continuation of the drive, that four schools were visited in Enugu metropolis by the team to determine their level of compliance in sourcing books from accredited sales representative/ right owners.
He listed the schools to include Pinacle Model School, Trans Ekulu, Seat of Wisdom Secondary School, Trans Ekulu, Solid Base Secondary School, Trans Ekulu Enugu and Stuff Link Secondary School Abapka Nike.
Akachukwu noted that all the schools visited complied with the officers by providing receipts of transactions, invoices of purchase but Seat of wisdom schools refused our officers entrance.
