September 30th, 2024, marks exactly one year since Rt. Hon. Dr. Caleb Ani was sworn in as Executive Chairman of Enugu South LGA.
There is no denying the fact that Ani's one year in office has seen the commencement of major projects across all sectors that are capable of transforming the area's economy and giving the people a new lease on life. A critical look at some sectors underscores the fact that Ani's leadership will change the course of the council's history.
Speaking recently at an event to mark the first anniversary of his administration, Rt. Hon. Dr. Caleb Ani announced that his administration had turned the council into a huge construction site, with many ongoing road projects over the past year.
Notable among the projects started and completed by his administration are the Onu-Orie Achara Layout Ubaka link road with a 4-cell culvert, Smart Green School road Amechi Uno, Amechi Uno-Amodu Obuoffia link road with culvert, Ndiagu road Amechi Uno, Amechi Uno-Umuogo road, among others.
Interestingly, these milestones achieved within such a short period have created a tremendous impact on the environment, and residents have expressed appreciation to the chairman for the laudable achievements and his good intentions for the area.
During the period under review, Enugu South LGA, through its Security Trust, approved and provided security gadgets and motorbikes to nine communities in the area, in addition to training security personnel to enhance safety.
Rt. Hon. Caleb Ani’s administration has also provided bursary awards to indigent students and paid the 2025 West African Examination Council (WAEC) and Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) fees for 300 indigent students across Enugu South Council to improve literacy and ease financial burdens on their families.
Revamping the Health Sector
Within the year under review,
Rt. Hon. Dr. Caleb Ani’s administration provided medical care and aids to over 1,000 persons, as well as donations of wheelchairs and walking aids to vulnerable residents.
The last year of Hon. Ani’s tenure has been characterized by deliberate efforts to improve sports development and talent discovery. He has organized football competitions, including the Enugu South Unity Cup for talent hunting in partnership with Rangers Int’l Football Club Enugu.
Interventions in the Energy Sector
In the last year of Rt. Hon. Caleb Ani’s administration, Enugu South Council undertook several interventions in the energy sector, including the donation of a 500 KVA transformer to Akwuke and Amechi Uno communities.
Equally remarkable was the installation of solar-powered streetlights in all nine communities of Enugu South LGA.
In Agriculture, Hon. Ani’s administration has provided equipment and seedlings to farmers to boost food security.
In a remarkable move to foster self-reliance and tackle youth unemployment, the Chairman has empowered over 500 young residents through an intensive Skill Acquisition Programme, recognizing that they are vital to the country’s future.
Additionally, determined to maintain good hygiene practices and clean environments in every community, the administration prioritized the evacuation of refuse dumps at Garriki, maintained monthly sanitation exercises, and donated a bus to the taskforce team to spread the message throughout the council.
Just recently, Rt. Hon. Dr. Caleb Ani’s administration unveiled the refurbished legislative council chamber, sparking excitement, hope, and pride among local leaders and residents.The upgraded chamber, now fitted with modern facilities, is more than just an infrastructure; it is a true testament to strengthening the heart of local governance.
This is in addition to the Executive Chamber Multi-purpose Hall and other people-oriented achievements.
As Rt. Hon. Dr. Caleb Ani begins his second year in office, it is safe to say that the Chairman has redefined governance by advancing sustainable development and taking Enugu South beyond mere promises.
