The Akwa Ibom Police Command on Wednesday said it had recovered firearms and other dangerous weapons from suspected criminals following actionable intelligence in the state.

This is contained in a statement issued in Uyo by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Timfon John.

John said that on Jan. 27, operatives of the command received credible information that suspected members of the Vikings confraternity were holding a meeting at Ikot Okubo, by the transformer off Abak Road, Uyo.

“Upon swift deployment to the location, the operatives stormed the area, prompting the suspects to flee on sighting the police, abandoning several dangerous weapons at the scene.

“Items recovered include one locally made double-barrel gun loaded with two cartridges; one locally made pistol loaded with one cartridge; another locally made pistol loaded with one cartridge; and one cutlass,” John said.

The police spokesperson added that following the operation, the command had deployed surveillance teams and intensified patrols and raids in the area.

She reiterated the command’s resolve to rid the state of criminal elements, stressing that no individual or group threatening public peace would be spared.

John urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information to the police to enhance crime prevention and public safety.
