The Provost, Peaceland College, Enugu, Dr Kevin Nwachukwu, has warned newly matriculated students that the college had no place for antisocial activities like cultism, indecent dressing and others.
Nwachukwu gave the warning during the 11th matriculation ceremony of the College on Monday in Enugu.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that, out of the 800 matriculating students, more than 100 are Nigerian Certificate In Education (NCE) students while 700 are Degree students.
Nwachukwu advised the students not to indulge in antisocial activities, but engage themselves in their lectures, extracurricular activities and build lasting relationships with their colleagues.
He also warned them against keeping bad company, saying it was a practical evil on campus and students should be mindful of the friends they keep.
He revealed that the college was committed to providing a world-class teacher education that prepared the students for success in their chosen careers.
“Today marks a significant milestone in the lives of our fresh students, as they embark on an exciting journey of academic discovery and personal growth.
“As they matriculate today, they have become part of the community of scholars, dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge, wisdom, and character.
“As you begin this new chapter in your academic journey, I urge you to be focused, dedicated and diligent,” he said.
He equally encouraged them to take advantage of the numerous opportunities Peaceland would provide them in classroom activities, entrepreneurship and Information Communication and Technology to build themselves.
“To the parents and guardians, we recognise the significant investments you have made and we assure you that we will do everything possible to ensure their success and well-being, ” Nwachukwu said.
One of the new students, Miss Chinasa Ukandu, thanked the school for admitting them and pledged to make the institution proud.
“I am so happy to be here,” she said.
