Peaceland College, Enugu swears-in newly elected SUG executive

 

The Peaceland College of Education, Enugu, on Wednesday, sworn-in the newly elected members of the Students' Union Government (SUG) of the Institution for 2025/2026 academic year.


The new executives was elected on July 11, 2025 to pilot the affairs of the students of the college.

Speaking during the exercise, the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr Jacob Osulor, appreciated the Vice Chancellor of Peaceland University/ founder of the college, Prof. Leonard Ilechukwu, for ensuring successful election.


He equally lauded the electoral committee headed by Dr Alloy Ezeagu, for peaceful SUG election  as well as the outgoing executive for their selfless sacrifices, resilient and commitment.

The dean charged the executive to see leadership as service  and expressed the need for them to work as team and in collaboration with the management of the college.

Also speaking, the Provost of the college, Dr Kelvin Nwachukwu, extolled the relationship that had been existing between SUG and the management since the inception of the college.

He  advised the executive to always seek for dialogue with the management on issues  than taking laws into their hands.

"Do not allow unionism prevent you from attending your classes, be good ambassadors of Peaceland and comply with its rules and regulations," he advised.

In his remark, Ilechukwu appreciated what he described as virtue of humility, selfless sacrifices and hardworking being exhibited by the staff of the college.

According to him, their attitude and dedication to duty has brought tremendous progress to the Institution.

"I can travel without worry because I have dependable, trustworthy and hardworking staff," Ilechukwu said.

He commended the outgoing executive for their 'gentlemen way' of addressing the issues affecting students, urging the incoming executives to emulate them.

The VC called on them to make difference by becoming different in all they do, tasking them on listening  before acting and limiting their social lives by embracing their studies which, he said  was their primary purpose of being in school.

He, however, pledged to collaborate with them to move the college forward.

In an interview, the Director of Academic Planning (DAP), Dr Austin Ojobeagu, said he was excited as it was the first time  a part-time student would devoted  himself to lead SUG which showed an all inclusive development.

Ojobeagu also the Director Part-Time Programme, added that his vision was to see the college become one of the best college of education in Nigeria.

Responding, the SUG President, Comrade  Godsown Onuzulike, while thanking the vice Chancellor and the management for giving them opportunity to serve, pledged to work with management to actualise the dreams of establishing the college.
