Enugu Sports Club gets new chairman


 

Mr Ifeanyi Nweke, immediate past Vice Chairman of the Enugu Sports Club has emerged as the new chairman.

Nweke, who served as the Vice Chairman of the club under Chief Victor Atuonwu, the outgoing chairman, was elected through a consensus.

He was elected  alongside other executive members, to pilot the affairs of the club for the next one year.

The other executives of the club are; Chief Vincent Okoye, Vice Chairman, Chief Uche Onoh, General Secretary and Mrs Nnene Ndukwo-Ogbuja, as the Assistant Secretary.

Chief George Akwada is in charge of Innovation, Marketing, Investment and Treasurer, among others.

In his acceptance speech, Nweke promised to work with the constitution and ensure continuous development of the club.

He commended  members for the confidence reposed on him and other elected executives to serve the club, with the assurance of working within the ambit of the club’s constitution and extant policies.

The new chairman also lauded  his predecessor, Chief Atuonwu, for the projects he initiated, promising to consolidate on his legacies.

“I promise to prioritise the welfare of members and their families and reorganise the security architecture of the club.

“I will also invest in commercial ventures to generate funds to develop the club and improve the health facilities among others,” he said.

Earlier, Atuonwu thanked the club members for their unalloyed  support which made him to succeed.

“Nweke is a good man and I encourage everyone of us to support him and make his tenure successful one,” he appealed.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Enugu Sports Club was founded in 1929 initially as an exclusive European club, that provided sporting and recreational activities for civil servants in Eastern Nigeria.

When the colonial administration left, the club became a hub for sporting and social interactions among prominent Nigerians and other nationals.
