Association engages civil servants in health walk to promote fitness

The Association of Heads of Federal Establishments (AHFE), Enugu Chapter, has organised a health walk aimed at promoting physical fitness among federal civil servants in Enugu State.

During the exercise on Wednesday in Enugu, AHFE Chairman Mr Emeka Nwokoro said the initiative was designed to encourage federal workers to engage in regular physical activity.

He noted that many workers often went straight from home to work and back, with little or no physical activity, which negatively affects their mental and physical well-being.

“Through exercise, we become more energetic and mentally alert. That is the main goal of this health walk,” Nwokoro said during the event.

He revealed that the health walk was held quarterly, but some members were advocating for it to become a monthly routine due to its immense benefits.

Nwokoro also urged civil servants who had not been participating to join in future walks to enhance their health and workplace productivity.

The AHFE chairman commended Lofish Travel and Tour Ltd. for their partnership and support in ensuring the success of the fitness initiative.

He also appreciated federal agencies like the Federal Fire Service, Nigerian Correctional Service, and the Police Command for ensuring participants’ safety during the walks.

Chioma Chinwetalu, a representative of Lofish Travel and Tour Ltd., said their partnership with AHFE reflected their commitment to promoting wellness through physical fitness.

She encouraged Nigerians to embrace regular exercise, stating that it improved overall health and enhances daily performance in various professional fields.

Mrs Calista Mmeku, Commander of Narcotics, NDLEA Enugu, hailed the initiative, noting the walk helped loosen her muscles and improved her blood circulation.

“I noticed remarkable changes in my body even after walking a short distance. I feel much lighter and more relaxed,” she said.

Mrs Maureen Atuonwu, Zonal Manager, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Enugu, added that the activity helped participants relieve stress and stay physically active.
